Week after that we will have visitors from Great Britain, will play them twice at Helsinki.
The last preparation tournament before the championships will take place July 3rd-5th at the beautiful city of Rakvere and again against good competition Estonia, Ukraine and Lithuania. A real test for the young men, especially Lithuania.
Our championships (Group B) will take place July 12th-21st at Romania. There will also be some really good teams: Poland, Belgium.... Tough competition and a great challenge for my team. Our main goal is to produce players for the senior national team, but winning the tournament would be nice also..
After the U20 program I will have one week off before joining the senior national team. Extremely excited about that as well, life is good.

First camp- Jun.6, 2013 (by Pekka) Finnish U20 NT camp has started.
After three days of practicing I have to say that I am really happy, all the players are in great shape, we have a lot of size and good guards, life is smiling!
Off the 21 players camping at the moment only 12 will make the team, and it will be a tough decision. This is my fourth U20 national team and I have never had this many good players to choose from [read more] | |

Off the 21 players camping at the moment only 12 will make the team, and it will be a tough decision. This is my fourth U20 national team and I have never had this many good players to choose from. Age group -86 was close:
Gerald Lee, Mikko Koivisto, Petteri Koponen, Samuel Haanp and Vesa Mklinen have been playing with senior NT, and Ilkka Vuori just got an invitation to next camp and a lot of other guys from that group have had a great career in b-ball. But these new guys: there are so many good ones, hopefully they keep on working hard and make right decisions about their careers.
We have been working on offense first three days, have not been doing like this before, normally it is D first for me, but decided to try like this this year. A good experiment, but to be honest, I have been waiting for this day, todays sessions will be about DEFENSE, intensity.
Excited and ready to go.
Respect the game

Bisons, back2back- May.18, 2013 (by Pekka) What a great basketball season we had here in Finland.

The finals then?

Best of five, and all those five games needed, upsets, huge crowds, intensity, tradition It was great time to be a basketball fan.
At the end the Bisons (Loimaa) took the championship but KTP did not give them anything easy, they played hard, they played smart and really physical.
The Bisons had all the answers and had different people stepping up different times and they played great defense!
Have to congratulate all the winners, especially all my former players: Onnea!
For Yours truly this last couple of weeks have been full of recruiting, decision making and also some (much needed) time off.
Lets see what kind of a team we will have at Tapiolan Honka next year..I am excited!
My next task will be planning the U20 national team program , we will have our first camp at the beginning of June.
My staff looks great: Greg Gibson, the championship coach (Bisons) and the shooting guard of Kataja, Petri Virtanen
Conditining coach Jussi Hirvonen has worked with our senior NT for like 10 years and at Frankfurt and at MBC and
It will be a priviledge to work with these guys!
Respect the game
