Assistant Coach Marius Toma of Craiova has made public the fact that the club currently has only Romanians Cornel Cioacata (197-F-92), Catalin Petrisor (182-G-92), Iulian Orbeanu (204-C-91), Ionut Albu (187-G-85) and Mihai Gavrila (202-F-77) under contract for the 2012-2013 Season. The club, according to Toma, will make announcements in regards to the imports by August 6th. Imports from last season (name / new team) such as Donte Gennie (185-PG-83, agency: TSS Management, college: Georgia South) (BCM Pitesti) and Stephen Ross (201-G/F-80, agency: Court Side, college: Santa Clara) (U. Mobitelco) have decided to move on to new clubs in Romania this season.
Still looking for a club and expected to find new homes in the league this season include (name/former club): Tyrone Mitchell (186-PG-81, agency: SDJ Sports, college: Northwestern St.) (currently negotiating with clubs in Romania and in other countries) (186-PG-81, agency: SDJ Sports, college: Northwestern St.) (Oradea), Jason Straight (188-G-83, agency: Gross Zeev ISA, college: Wyoming) (Targe Mures), Kevin Sims (178-G-88, agency: Strategic Sports, college: Tulane) (Giurgiu), Raymond Kraemer (193-G-87, college: Nevada) (Giurgiu), and Zoran Milovic (204-C/F-77) (Giurgiu) as the clubs have reported in the transfer section of the federation website of the release of the roster spot to accomodate new players. Meanwhile, Damien Kinloch (203-F-80, college: Tenn Tech) has stated that he has signed to return to the club Pitesti for the 2012-2013 campaign.

CSS Giurgiu has announced the signings of Import Center Bryson McKenzie (211-C-83, college: N.Illinois) and Import Forward Marcus Melvin (203-F-82, college: N.Carolina St.). Bryson McKenzie is a 6'11 (2.11m) Center from the USA (Indiana). He has played for the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Summer League as well as helped his club in Hungary to a division championship. Bryson McKenzie is a 6'11 (2.11m) Center from the USA (Indiana). Last season Bryson was a big part of the success in Romania for CSM Bucharest. He has great size, character, length, and work ethic that will translate to wins this season and a presence on the back line. For CSM last season, Bryson was 3rd in Romania in rebounds and 3rd in blocked shots. He shot over 58% from the floor and was a dominant finisher around the basket as well as a huge key to their interior defense. Bryson turned 29 years old this past July and brings with him the experience of playing overseas and against high level competition for some time.
Marcus Melvin is a 6'8 (2.03m) Forward from the USA (North Carolina) where he starred at North Carolina State as an All-ACC Tournament 1st team as a Junior competing in a tough conference with Duke, Wake Forest and North Carolina among others. The following season Marcus was 2nd team All-ACC and his team advanced to the ACC Tournament Championship game twice in consecutive seasons. A Portsmouth and Chicago NBA Pre-Draft participant, Marcus played for the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Summer League. He's since gone on to play in the top leagues around the World including Italy Serie-A, Turkey TBL, Lebannon, Phillipines, Puerto Rico, Argentina and Iran's Superleague. Marcus just turned 30 this past August and has the veteran experience competing against some of the better players around the World.

After a strong performance in the Romanian Cup that saw his club advance to the round of 8, Dragan Petricevic stepped down from the helm of Sibiu after a rough start to the season saw his club at 3-6. Sibiu has a long standing basketball tradition and has one of the largest fan bases in the region. Petricevic seemed a perfect match for Sibiu as a very accomplished Head Coach in Romania spending seasons with Arad, Ploesti, and Timisoara three times winning championships, twice as a cup finalist, and also twice as coach of the year. His resignation was announced and newly appointed Miodrag Perisic and team management has been working on reloading their roster. First arrival was big man Christopher Lee (206-C-84, agency: Duran International, college: S.Carolina St.). Lee stepped on to the scene immediately showing his abilities to impact the club in a positive way collecting 18 points and 19 rebounds in a huge road win against Medias. Next change was bringing in another American Jefferson Mason (198-G-88, college: Minnesota St.). The athletic forward will replace Uros Velicovic on the roster. The two moves have given the club more size and athleticism. Velicovic is known as a great perimeter shooter at 6'3 where the import Mason is a long armed athletic 6'6 that attacks the paint and on the offensive glass. Lee has a big body and bangs down low and has been a beast on the glass. In the 2 wins since he came in, Lee has averaged 19 points and 14 rebounds and won Player of the Week honors in the win at Medias. Sibiu, now 5-6, will be showcasing their new additions tonight in Giurgiu where they face off with a Wolves team that is tied with them in the standings and is also coming off two wins defeating Romanian Cup and Super Cup winner Pitesti by a score of 78-74 and on the road at Dinamo 93-61.

Former Charlotte Bobcats Big Man Sean May (206-F-84, college: N.Carolina) and Paris Levallois (France Pro A) take on 2011 Romanian Cup Champion BCM U Pitesti in the Eurochallenge matchup November 6th. The game is available live in Romania on Dolce Sport but is also available on the net. Just search tvr online and most every game broadcast on Romanian television is also made available online. Pitesti is led this season by the return of big man Damien Kinloch (203-F-80, college: Tenn Tech) from the team that won the Romanian Cup last year. Kinloch will be giving up some size and experience to May who helped guide North Carolina to an NCAA Championship and then drafted in the NBA suiting up for the Charlotte Bobcats and Sacramento Kings before going to Europe in 2010 for Fenerbahce in Turkey. May signed a 2 year contract with Paris in the summer and in 4 games so far has averages of 20.5ppg and 6.3 while shooting 68.8% from 2. But Kinloch should be more mobile at 6'8 228 to May's 6'9 273 so it could come down to the style of game played and the points on the floor where each is able to get the ball in the offense.
There are currently 4 teams in Romania that compete in the Eurochallenge: Pitesti (Romanian Cup Champion), Ploesti (Romanian League Champion), Gaz Metan, and Timisoara. There was discussion as to the possibility of Ploesti playing in the Eurocup prior to the season. The Eurocup and Eurochallenge are some of the higher levels of International competition sanctioned by FIBA in Europe. They are just a step below EuroLeague. With EuroLeague, EuroCup, and EuroChallenge; first division clubs from around Europe compete against one another including teams from ACB Spain, Italy Serie A, France Pro A, Germany Bundesliga, Turkey TBL, Greece A1, and the Romanian National League, among others.
