Hey,

Theres one thing you dont really learn, when you grow up as a coach. One thing that comes along with experience. When I started coaching, and decided to do it as a full time job, the question how to get a deal for the upcoming season ? was not looking that important to me. I mean, I was coaching youth team in my local club before a coach came and offered me the opportunity to become his assistant.

It was in womens first division, 9 months of an experience quite weird : Interesting to learn the job with great and experienced players, but also very frustrating because of the lack of money the club had, and the bankrupt that finally came one game before the end of the season. It was 8 years ago. When the coach came to us and told us it was over, I realized how fragile was the business.

How to get a deal for the upcoming season ? is the question we, players, coaches, are used to ask to ourselves an our agents- quite often. The risk of beeing unemployed for a few months, and maybe more, is real, and it can happen to each of us. Then you realize how lucky you are to be able to get paid for your passion. Basketball is a business, but its a also lot more.

Actually, Im looking for an opening. I miss practice a lot, and coaching even more. Im still used to work on video analysis for a professionnal men team, so I can keep contact with a part of the assistant coachs duties. Its also important to stay focus on basketball, and also on the way to use the softwares, things like that.
The job market is going to move slowly in a few weeks, so well see if theres finally an answer to THE question

See you on the next blog!

PS1 : About finding a spot, good to know that my former player Christopher Grimm (207-F/C-84, college: Marquette) finally got a deal in Hungary, after a few weeks waiting in France and a crazy experience in Macedonia.

PS2 : In my last post here, I wrote about the FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate training course. Two of my coachmates are also members of the Eurobasket.com blog squad : Tomas Bilek , from Czech Republic and coaching in Romania, and Remy de Wit , from Netherlands. Don't forgot to read their blogs. Basketball is a really small world, the Blue Nation is even smaller.

Germany, Lithuania, summertime- Jul.17, 2012  (by Romain)

Hello, Once again, same sentence to begin my post: "Such a long time...". Yep, such a long time. While many coaches are actually getting ready for youth EC, or already leading their team to success (Or not... But I don't wanna upset my guys, or basically be the black cat...), I'm off. Offseason mode. In may, I had a great time with France u15W NT. First experience for me, as an assistant coach, with a French NT [read more]
Wishlist- May.6, 2012  (by Romain)

Whats up Europe and world ? A lot of things happened since my last post, about my next destination, I mean. The deal is quite inked and I feel like Im back in business. When I began my coaching carreer, years ago, I asked myself what Id like to live as a coach. Not really achievements, but dreams or expectations. A lot of things came to my mind. Amongst everything, beeing a part of a national team program was one of the most important points [read more]
Beeing a part of it- Mar.28, 2012  (by Romain)

Whats up, everybody ? Its been a while since my last post. The regular season is ending soon for most of you guys. Post-season and playoffs times are coming quick now. Season ending also means national teams, which is my topic today. After 3 summers in a row with me FECC coach mates (Yeah, once again giving props to my Blue Nation guys), attending u16, u18 and u20 EC, Im now a part of the French youth NT programme. The French Fed asked me to join the u15 W staff for the upcoming summer [read more]
