So, I've been away for quite some while. Sorry for my absence. Forgive me?
Update: The team (BG Goettingen Violets) is in the playoff hunt. We have one game left and really need to get this win to solidify a playoff spot. It's been a hectic year with so many ups and downs. Collectively and Individually. I've grown so much during this time on the court and off. This has been a great step in the advancement of my career. Through the storms of adversity and the sweet taste of success, growing into a man continues to happen.
We have a few days off from basketball because we don't play for another 10 days. I'm in the process, at this very moment, in deciding where I want to go. I was thinking Berlin, Germany. I have heard quite a few good things about the city and it's architecture. Also, I sort of want to 'spoil' myself and get something nice as an end of the season gift from me to me. But, before I go anywhere I need to get this apartment together. I'd never let it get out of control and too messy but at the moment it could use some tidying up. Wash these dishes, fold these clothes, and scrub the tub! This is why I need a woman! ;-)
Alright, so I won't keep you. I know you have other blogs to read. I WILL be around a lot more often than I have been. It's just been a busy period for the kid but I'll do better. PROMISE. God Bless and Take Care!

Tony Gaffney | Heading back to the states...awaiting the next chapter- Apr.9, 2012 (by Eurobasket Center) So the season has finally come to an end. Although we had a strong second half of the year we were unable to do all that we wanted to do. I think I had a solid first year individually but always think I could have done better. I am already looking forward to see where we will be next season.

I definitely had a blast in my first season overseas. I made a lot of friends, saw a lot of places, improved different aspects of my game and opened myself up to new experiences. I wouldnt trade my first year here for anything. It is definitely bitter sweet to be heading home as I am unbelievably excited to get home for a bit and see my friends and family and also Kerri and I have a lot of wedding planning to do, but at the same time I am sad to be leaving the town of Augsburg, all of whom I have become close with. It is difficult because who knows where Kerri and I will end up next season and everyone here has been nothing but great to us since day 1.
As for the team and management. I have to say that I was very lucky to be in a situation with such great management in my first season. I got along great with every affiliated with the team and they have taken great care of me since day 1. Anything I have needed or asked for they have taken care of right away. I have formed amazing relationships with everyone and I know we will keep in touch.
To the town of Augsburg. What a beautiful city to live in. Downtown is great and it is definitely an amazing city. An hour away from Munich is great incase we wanted to go into there for a day also. The people are great and we have been invited to many dinners from families who have treated us like their own family. Today even we went to a families house and had an amazing kase spatzel meal that was probably the best meal I have had since coming to Germany. I will definitely miss everyone here.
As for next season I am not sure exactly where we will end up. I want to play at the highest level possible and know I can I just need the opportunity. Now the seasons over and the waiting game begins. I am extremely excited to see my family though especially since we are very close.
Also a shout out to my buddy for getting us tickets to his game (Telekom Bonn Baskets) vs Bayern Munchen. It was a lot of fun for us and Im lucky to have a great friend and am very happy to see him become one of the best players in the Beko BBL.
Thats it for now, I will post throughout the summer! Hope everyone has a great summer and finishes out their seasons strong.

John Bynum | I'm 34 and your point is.....- Apr.5, 2012 (by Eurobasket Center) So a close friend of mine the other day asked me what do you do want to do when you finish playing basketball? So a close friend of mine the other day asked me what do you do want to do when you finish playing basketball? I thought for a second, and I really didnt have a clear answer or anything I could really say back to him. It is sort of funny cause my whole life I have been playing this game that I grew up to love and to be honest it is almost that time where I need to make that decision. The door is closing right before my eyes, but trust me it is not shut all the way and when it is, I will be the first to know, instead of the many that have there opinions about the things I do or dont do well on the court and judge me even if they have never been on the court involved in a basketball game (fans). Im very appreciative for what I have accomplished coming from little Visalia, California and playing division 2 basketball, starting in the regionaliga and working my way up to the BBL. So what will be my options after the season, I know one option it wont be, it will not involve me retiring and not playing when I am still as athletic as most players that I play against each week. When I feel ...and I mean when I feel like I cant help out a team then I will not play anymore. So with that being said that answers the question about me not playing next season. But there will be a time when that day comes when I need to make that decision but that time is not now. It really seems like yesterday I just got into the country and ordered a peporoni pizza and was disspointed cause there were peppers on my pizza. Time has flown by and I cant even tell you where my 20s went but at the same time I wouldnt have traded this experience for anything in the world. Sometimes I know I take this career for granted by the things I do, but without basketball I wouldnt have got to know many of my friends I have to this day and saw many of the places that many can only dream of seeing on television. So yea this blog session was about me not retiring but guess what its my blog and I can write what I want to. Last thing as far as answering my boy who asked me the other day what will I do when I finish playing, Ill answer that when I am actually finished, but until that time comes find me on a court here in Germany bruh.. Take care everyone and Ill talk soon.
its my blog and if you dont like it dont read it John Bynum (191-G-78, agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement, college: Metro St.)

Trying to finish strong- Feb.20, 2012 (by Eurobasket Center) Whats up everyone. Its been awhile since my last post so I wanted to fill everyone in. Recently we have been playing much better and have a legit shot to stay in Pro A despite the fact that a lot of people had no doubt at all we would move down to pro A due to lack of experienced players. This is understandable considering starting the season we were the only team in the league without 1 player who had pro A experience [read more] | |
Whats up everyone. Its been awhile since my last post so I wanted to fill everyone in. Recently we have been playing much better and have a legit shot to stay in Pro A despite the fact that a lot of people had no doubt at all we would move down to pro A due to lack of experienced players. This is understandable considering starting the season we were the only team in the league without 1 player who had pro A experience. I think as the season has gone on we have improved and made the adjustments necessary to become a better team. We are competing every game and have had a lot of games that would have resulted in wins had a few things gone our way. All in all this has been a great 1st year overseas. I would love to win more games but I have enjoyed my time spent here in Augsburg and the people have been great. Personally I think I adjusted well especially since I did not play basketball for a year after graduation from college. I am looking forward to see how the end of the season plays out. Expect to see us make a run! I am very fortunate and thankful to be doing what I love for a living and am hoping to keep playing as long as my body allows me too and the opportunities present themselves!
I will check back in at the end of the season but for now have a great one everyone! Finish up your seasons strong and Ill check in later!
