Left-handed point guard with explosive scoring ability...very quick and excellent outside shooter. Great personality type of guy, intelligent, good basketball IQ, skilled, quick and a versatile guard that can score and run the point! As a sophomore at Colby Community college in the Jayhawk Juco he was 2nd in the entire West and East Leagues in scoring at 21pts per game.

Playoff Bound. O What A Feeling - Apr 4, 2011
So as I stare into the midst of dreams, I realize that everything that I wanted at the begining of the year has came true. We all make goals and with those goals we try to strive for greatest. Some of us maintain those things we wish for and others fall a little short. But in my case most have came true. As we enter into our last week of regular season play, this is the time were teams look at the playoff picture and matches ups. Being tied for 6th with a win last week vs Alges we strive to make on last win before the playoff times roll around. We face #2 Fisica this next week, hoping to knock off the impossible again. (Which is always a great feeling). Last week was a bit of a american reunion, in lisbon. Terceira (US) playing against Alges and Angra playing against Fisica brought together all the Americans on the team. We all had fun as we rush around the mall to try to eat and go shopping. Must I add, I had some of the best food I ever had here in Portugal at a restaurant in the mall. It was a Brazilian Cuisine, with an open side orders buffet. Servers rapidly rush to each table bringing out different varieties of meat on a stick which is called kushiyak. (Japanese). They had lamb (greek food), baked chicken, ham, turkey, fried cuisine all brought out at different times during the meal. It was a very good way to try out many different cultures all in one place, all in one environment. I was eating so well I didnt realize I was sweating from the heat coming from the food haha, we will save that story for next time haha. Before I leave I also want to say how blessed I am in becoming an Uncle to a very beautiful baby girl name Ezra Aniyah Escobar Bowie last week. Congrads to my brother and his wife.

As we enter the 2012 year, round 2 without any true center we had no where to look or turn but ourselves. Everybody knows that having a true center is a must when you want to go far and win games. But as we wait on our team to get him we put together 2 nice wins. We buckled down as a unit and just got the job done. These 2 wins was by far the best because our whole team mentality was different, and if you was there you could tell. We beat lower ranked Ginasio and beat the 7th place team Sampaense which was a huge win. Against Sampaense I chipped in 23 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assist giving me the best point guard of the week on http://www.fpb.pt/fpb_portal/!fpb.go?s=9188304154&p=fpb.201020&t=fpb.200058&k_id_noticia=37068 . Been busy alot trying to decide about my future and what it may hold, but I understood that I cannot do much about that just to make the right choice and continue to decide my present. We droped a few close games that we needed on the road and at home. But thats in the past, so we must prepare and close out the first half of the season with a bit of a bright note. Exclusive Interview With John Bynum Jr. - Nov.8, 2011 (by Nate)
1. First off thanks for doing the interview Nate.... let me start off by asking about your childhood... tell me what was it like growing up in Kansas City and what could we find you doing as a youngster back in the day?

1. First off thanks for doing the interview Nate.... let me start off by asking about your childhood... tell me what was it like growing up in Kansas City and what could we find you doing as a youngster back in the day?
You welcome man no problem, I enjoy and appreciate this interview; with all this ample time on my hands I dont mind doing a few interviews a week. Well back in the day I was all about basketball and nothing else. Basketball was installed in me since I was little kid. My dad use to have me and my brother sit down and watch basketball games all day. I was big fan of Earl The Pearl Monroe. If anybody out there hasnt seen him I suggest you Google his highlights on YouTube, because he was way before his time. During the time when I grew up it was privilege to play basketball as well. I use to help my father with his work as a janitor and return my dad use to let me and my brother play basketball in the gym. So at a young age hard work was a must.
2. Who were some of your role models growing up and did you play any other sports as a youngster?
I think my role model was basically my brother. Since he is a year in half older than me I tried to do the things that he was doing, like playing basketball for AAU, high school etc. Yes actually I did I was a well rounded athlete. I played cross country, track, basketball, I would have liked to play football but our coach wouldnt let us.
3. Who were some of the players that you watched as a youngster?
Well since I am a 80s baby I use to watch guys like Isaiah Thomas, who I was very kin to because he was one of the smaller guards in the league but still had the will do damage among the trees in the league. I always use to watch guys like Tim Hardaway, if people dont know who he is but thats where the killer crossover came from. I also like Michael Ray Robinson, Kevin Johnson, Magic Johnson and Allen Iverson of course. My dad also had me watching a lot of vintage NBA, (If you want to go heads up on NBA history John let me know lol). We use to watch a lot of games from back in his time, so I liked a lot of people but of guards Im a guard so I like that position first. Guys like Nate Tiny Archibald, Walt Clyde Frazier and Oscar Big O Robertson.
4. You played Juco for two years at Colby CC for those who dont know where that is let them know and what made you chose Central Arkansas as your college choice?
Well Colby CC is far far in western Kansas, close to the Colorado border; A foreign land for me as well, even though Im from Kansas City. I choose Central Arkansas because I figured I had 2 years left in my college career to try to make it pro, so I wanted to go D1 but wanted to also play and make a difference. Purdue and Hawaii and Fordham were some of the top 3 schools that recruited me at that time, but I felt UCA was my best choice.
5. What are some of your best memories of being in Conway?
I would say some of my best memories at UCA would have to be when we was ranked in the nation among the top mid majors, also receiving votes as well for the ESPN Poll. I enjoyed my time down in Arkansas, its a totally different world than what Im use to, but the Frat parties and the End of The World was really something everybody should experience at least once in their life.
6. Following your college career you had a stint in the NBA D-League, caught on in Canada in the IBL before catching on with your first gig in Europe playing in Spain... how did the Spain job come about and how did you know you were ready to make a move across water?
Well actually before Spain I signed a contract in the top league in Slovenia. I left around November to go to Spain, as that the team in Slovenia was having financial problems. Spain gig came about when I was in Slovenia and needed to make a quick move to go somewhere in Europe, my connect in Slovenia had a close friend in Spain and the next day I was on my way there. I personally thought I was ready my senior year after I lead the conference in scoring and was All-American Nominee. I knew I could perform at a high level, just had to make the right decision on which agent to represent. From this experience I learned that its not what you know but who know.
7. What was the most difficult transition for you on and off the court in being in Europe and after having that great season in Spain was there a reason why you chose to stay back in the states and play in the IBL?
Well no people have to understand that the IBL is nothing but a summer league to stay in shape and continue to play. Out of college when I signed with the NBA D-League a lot of things didnt work out between me and my agent at that time. Had a lot of deal and what not, but my agent thought it would be best if I played in the D-League. This hurt my career tremendously. Just didnt have the right guy representing me. At the time I got a call from a team in British Colombia and I was there, and enjoyed it. During the season I left and flew to Morocco to play in Cup games and at the time they offered me a 2-Year contract. My better self said not to take it, not knowing what else I might have but god work in mysterious ways and there for that August in 2009 I left to Slovenia for training camp and signed a contract. The rest is history.
