Over two months have passed since then and the tournament concluded with a long awaited celebration. It seems like such a long time since the National Powerade Cup started back in the middle of December. Over two months have passed since then and the tournament concluded with a long awaited celebration.
There were so many aspects to this tournament that were tough to understand and different from anything I've ever experienced before, with this being my first experience playing basketball overseas. The tournament consisted of teams in the Icelandic Express league, 1st division, and even other teams throughout the country. So we ended up playing some teams we weren't familiar with because the tournament had teams from many different leagues.
Another aspect that was different from any tournament I've ever played in was the random drawing at the beginning of each round. The tournament was not seeded and then played out, and home and away was determined by a coin flip. So after each win we had to wait a few days to find out who and where we would be playing next.
The last thing that was a little difficult for an American player was the schedule itself. It was my first time having to play an important one and done tournament or playoff, while in the middle of also playing regular season games that were also important. We would play a regular season game on Thursday. This would maybe be against a rival or be a game that has important implications on the current standings. Then turn around and have a Cup game on Sunday that is win or go home. This made things interesting as far as mental toughness. Each game had different mindsets and thoughts going in and you had to be very focused on each game, especially the regular season games. Because the tournament was so important to us, it was hard to not be looking forward to a Cup game when the next game on the schedule was a regular season matchup.
Two months later, we were crowned Champs. It was our goal to do so, and I am very proud of our team's accomplishment. We won three straight road games to get from the round of 32 all the way to the Final Four. We won our only home game in the semi finals and then were able to hold on to a tough 2 point championship win over Tindastoll at the National Stadium. The stands were packed with both teams fans and the atmosphere was amazing. It was definitely a very fun game to be a part of and certainly one that I will never forget!

Born and raised in Michigan, Ive seen my fair share of white winters. More than I cared for to be exact, so when the locals told me It doesnt snow that much anymore. I got excited. Dealing with the cold is one thing, but icy roads and climbing through snow is something completely different.
So, the snow started falling. This is unusual, at least this is what Im being told, hasnt snowed this early in winter in ages. After the unusual snowfall, what remained were only a few inches and by days peak most of the snow had melted. Ok, that wasnt bad. I can deal with the one unusual day. Then the days grew shorter and it was feeling a lot like a mean winter to me.
By now, each day held at least one if not all three of these elements; darkness, snow or wind storms that bullied us senseless It never really crossed my mind that tons of snow storms and the occasional wind storms could lead to a winter wonderland.
I was still hopeful that these unusual winter storms would subside and the snow would taper off; little did I know a new meaning of snow was on the horizon. There it was (we normally wouldnt practice on a Saturday morning, however this day we did along with) my very first blizzard!!! I couldnt see more then a few steps ahead of me, not really sure if it was because the wind was blowing the snow in my eyes or the severity of the blizzard. As we fought our way to practice, I tried to warm up quickly but the blizzard didnt allow much of anything, so I thought Yeah, it doesnt snow that much anymore. It most has waited just for me.
Thankfully, we made it to practice safely. Shortly after our arrival and 10 minutes into our warm up the power goes outLast thought wow it hasnt been like this in ages stay tuned!!!

The first half of the season concluded with a win this past week to give us an 8-3 record and sole position of third place. This season has truly been a great experience. This is my first experience of playing basketball overseas. I played a total of a little more than one season in the NBA D-League, and now I feel blessed to have the chance to play for Keflavik in the Iceland Express League. Especially after partially tearing my achilles back in April of 2011, I thought that I was going to have to take a year off from basketball.
Keflavik has a long history of great championship teams and from day 1, back in September, the talk has been about the 3 year drought of Championships. So you know where my head is at...
The time has passed quickly over the last 4 months. Our team has had some ups and downs. But fortunately there has been much more good than bad. Despite dealing with some lingering groin injuries and a couple of tough 1 point losses this year has been a major plus so far. We are looking forward to the journey over the second half and I'll be sure to keep those who are interested up to date on our season.
