Hello again everyone and welcome to my second blog. In this blog, I will update you all on this season and tell you a little about how I prepare for a game. Again, my name is Glenn Stokes AKA- G Money and this is my eighth season playing ball overseas.
This season I am playing in the Dutch Basketball League. I arrived to Holland on August 13th along with four other guys, Lawrence Hamm, Dontae Minter, Junior Hairston, and Tre Mcdowell. It took us no time getting to know each other and building a strong bond on and off the court, which is one of the most important things when coming to a new team. It is very important that egos dont collide and envy doesnt conflict within Americans. Different countries have different rules and limitations on the amount of Foreign players each team can have, most allow two or maybe even three but in the netherlands we have five which is tough because we all know that it is already hard enough to have two guys with different personalities come together let alone 5. For us, it was not a problem from day 1 we got along very well off the court and after just one week we had to put it together on the court for our 1st preseason game which went well. After that we had to travel to France for a big tournament with Mons from Belgium, Le Havre from France and Rouen from France.
The weekend of the tournament in France was a BIG weekend in many ways, it was my birthday weekend, the weekend to see where we stood talent wise playing against very good teams, and the weekend I will see a very good friend of mine Marcus Hatten (my backcourt mate at Tallahassee Community College), because although in the states we live less than 40 minutes away from eachother I havent seen him in over 4 or 5 years. It was a great tournament and even a great test for me and my team. In game 1, we played against Le Havre (ProA France) and fought hard all the way thru but came up short at the end. In game 2, we matched up against Mons (Top team in Belgium) and I went against my homeboy Hatten, again we came up just alil short. After the tourney in France we felt good about our showing and ended up having a decent preseason despite being hit with a few key injuries to back-up point guard Mitchel Kouwijzer ( ankle), Sjors Besseling (ankle), Kenneth Van Kempen (recovering from knee surgery) and myself (hip and groin).
Again dealing with injuries, we started off the season on a bad note losing bad to Zwolle and me personally having the worst game of my professional career. Not to take anything from Zwolle or their pg Harry Marshall who played a great game on both ends of the court , but I played hurt and couldnt move at all with my bad groin and hip injury that I been dealing with for the past 2month and didnt provide anything for my team. I finished the game with 2pts and my team took an L. After that game it was best for me to rest and get my body right so I took it easy during the next weeks of practice and just saved whatever I had for the games.
With all of the injuries we are now 8-8 and sitting at 5th place in the league and I am currently leading the league in scoring. Our goal before the season was to finish in the top four and make a great run in the playoffs and midway thru the season we have a chance to be there before the Christmas break with a win vs Eiffel and Amsterdam. So during the break I will contiune to rest and rehab my groin and come back like the real Glenn Stokes because although statistically Im doing ok I havent played my best ball especially on the defensive end of the court.
Thanks again for reading my blog, I hope you enjoyed it and will continue to follow me, until next time Ciao
