Hello, hogyan csinalod? For those who don't understand that, and I'm sure its most of you, it means hello, how are you doing in Hungarian. You have to love google translate!!!! If you do not know me, my name is Curtis Marshall (196-G/F-83, agency: R.H.Consultancy, college: Texas Tech) and I'm from St. Louis, Missouri. I graduated from Texas Tech in 2005 and played for legendary coach Bob Knight . In my years under coach Knight I gained so much knowledge of the game of basketball. Playing for Bob Knight was the best decision I could have made for my basketball career. This is my sixth season playing professional basketball overseas. This is my second season in Europe and I have played other seasons in Australia and South America. I played my first season in Europe in the Baltic League and Eurocup for Barons LMT in Riga, Latvia. This was a come-back season for me since I haven't played basketball in Europe since the 06-07 season. I'm currently playing for Marso-Vagep NYKK basketball team in the Hungarian League (Hungary - A Division). I decided to play in Nyiregyhaza because I believed this could be the new start I needed in order to make a name for myself in Europe again. I also wanted to help an upcoming club be able to accomplish things that have not been previously accomplished. Practices here are typical for me, including two-a-days and weights. The difference is the travel because we travel on the day of games. I'm not a fan of this, but it definitely beats the 8-22 hour bus trips I experienced in Argentina. I think the longest trip we have to take here is like 6 hours or so. Another difference from previous seasons is the weather. I'm still trying to get back adjusted to the cold weather because I haven't experienced winter since my first season in Europe four years ago. That's the great thing about playing basketball in countries that don't get cold during the season, but rather having warm weather.

My team is having an up and down season so far. We are 3-6 so far and most would think we are not a good team, but that's not the case. The last three games we have been playing without a center and I was the tallest player on the court. I'm only 196cm, not a good look playing against players 208cm and above. Its hard to win without post players, not saying its not possible, but we would have to shoot above 80% in order to pull of a win. Really, what are the odds of all of our post players being injured? This is the first time this has ever happened to a team I've played on and most people can't say they have experienced this. It's a hard situation but I have a job to do and I still go into every game with the thought of winning no matter what. I can say that im in top shape from all the practices and playing 40 minutes a game. Once we are back to full strength, we will be a team to be reconed with. Many will overlook us and that will be their mistake. Its still early and we do have a chance of making the playoffs in April. That is when Marso-Vagep will show everyone why we shouldn't have been overlooked!!!!

Living in Nyiregyhaza has not been much of a shock to me, except for not having English channels on TV. Some people be asking me about the games but they dont speak English. Have you ever tried explaining how you did to someone who doesnt speak your language or visa-versa? The crazy thing is that I been in South America so long that my first thought is to try to explain in Spanish, yeah, good luck pulling that off. Nyiregyhaza is a nice city, its not the biggest but there is enough here to keep anyone's time occupied and is also 2.5 hours from Budapest. There are things to do but I havn't done alot because I prefer to experience everything this city has to offer with my family. I have a nice apartment, a car, and to my surprised I eat for free!!!! My teammates call my car the village X5, ha ha ha, far from a Navigator, but it's better than walking or taking a taxi everywhere. The only thing I do not have is my family but my wife and daughter will be here December 16th. When they arrive here I will be whole again. Being reunited with your family is the greatest feeling!!!!

I give thanks to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for giving me this talent that allows me to travel the world and experience different cultures. 'Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer' -- Romans 12:12. I would also like to thank Eurobasket for giving me the opportunity to do this blog. Until the next time, Curtis Marshall signing off, God Bless!!!!

Finals!!!!- May.14, 2012  (by Eurobasket Center)

This season has been a great one. At the beginning of the season the goal for this team was to finish in the top 8. As most already know we finished in first place. We set a Falco record with wins in a season and consecutive wins. It's great to be part of a team with this kind of success. We won our third game against Kormend last night in a very difficult, very tiring game [read more]
It all ends in Debrecen- Apr.24, 2012  (by Eurobasket Center)

Who would have ever thought we would make it to the EuroChallenge Final Four?! Me being a player for Szolnok, I definetly did not think we would make it this far. I know its kinda sad that I would think that right? Now that we have made it this far I know we are capable of writing history and becoming the EuroChallenge champions!! My goal for this years EuroChallenge was to make it past the first round [read more]

Washingtonians Hooping in Hungary- Jan.4, 2012  (by Eurobasket Center)

The basketball world is a small one. Every new teammate seems to know someone you do. Whether its a college teammate or someone you played with in high school you can usually come across a common person that has crossed your paths. This can be a great advantage for every hooper in landing your next job or gaining information on a country or team. The vast network that connects us all is a powerful tool that should be harnessed by every player. Its all about networking [read more]
