Glenn Stokes
Hello Everyone!! My name is Glenn Stokes (170-G-76, agency: R.H.Consultancy, college: American), I currently play professional basketball in the netherlands for a team called BS Weert. I would like to take time out to thank eurobasket for the opportunity to share my many basketball experiences and thoughts about my career, life in Europe and life as a professional basketball player overseas. In addition, I would like to thank each and every one of you for taking the time out to read my first blog and hope that you will find it interesting enough to visit again in the future. I thought for the first blog, I will just keep it simple and introduce myself to anyone in the basketball world who is not familiar with me or for others who may know who I am and may have been wondering where I am or what Ive been up to. Later, I will be sharing my experiences and hopefully advising the youth while doing so.
I started my College career at Tallahassee Community College in Tallahassee Florida, where I played two seasons before taking my skills to American University in Washington D.C. After AU, I was blessed with the opportunity to start my professional career and landed my first job in Jyvaskyla, Finland. I have since played in Switzerland, France, Sweden, The Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Mexico before returning to Europe and playing this season for BS Weert.
While playing for an organization with great tradition and great fan support, I have also reunited with my first coach as a pro, Terence Stansbury . I was very fortunate my rookie year in many ways . For one, having a great friend (Chris McGuthrie, a legend in Holland known as Mighty Mouse)who introduced me to my first agent who got me my first job. My first job happened to be in Finland, where everyone spoke English. To top it all off, I couldnt be anymore excited after hearing that my coach would be Terence Stansbury . A great player who played in the NBA before having a long career in Europe. Known mostly for his spectactular dunks ( being cheated in the 1985 NBA dunk contest), but was a great point guard and ended up being a Legend in all of Europe especially France where he is in the Hall of Fame. I was fortunate to have him as a coach to be hard on me and teach me all that I would need to know to be a Pro and have a successful career in Europe. Coach T and I always kept in contact from my rookie year and while playing in France he coached in Luxembourg so he even came to see me play there. We always talked about reuniting and finally after eight years the right opportunity has come. This year will be interesting and we will make some noise in Holland.
Again, I would like to thank everyone for reading my blog and I hope you enjoyed the first of many and will contiune to read throughout the season. Stay tuned for stories and advice. Until next time, Bye
