Travis Garrison: 'Things with Khimik are looking on the up and up' - Dec 3, 2010

follow us on |
Hello my name is Travis Garrison (203-F-84, agency: Edge Sports, college: Maryland).I am currently playing ball in Ukraine for Khimik-OPZ Yuzny basketball team.I also played here the 2nd half of 2009/2010 season. This year we are currently in last place, but things are looking on the up and up for us.We are playing a lot better now,and we are going to win more games and move up in our league. We lost a tough one last night in OT,but proud of the effort we gave by continuing to fight to the end.We have a good team, once we fix a few things we will be just fine.We are also playing in Eurochallenge and is currently 1-1,we have a game against Ventspils which will be our 2nd time playing them.We lost to them the first time, but I think things will be much different this time around. It's a long season so we have time to turn things around as long as we stay positive and keep pushing.
I am married, but my family is back in the U.S which is difficult for my wife and I.I have a son and we are raising her younger brother who is 5,so being away from them can be tough sometimes. But we play like every 2 or 3 days and practice twice a day so that takes my mind off of missing them a little. When I get home and is by myself is when it hits me,but I am doing this for them so that keeps me going.I am close with the players on my team and the Americans which makes things a lot better too. When you have teammates that are close and get along,it makes being away from home not so bad.But hopefully I will see them soon.
Well I will let you all know how things turn out for us in this next game in Eurochallenge.God Bless.

Happy New Year!!!- Dec.29, 2011 (by Eurobasket Center) Hello everyone the end of the year always signifies the halfway point for me the past few seasons. The season is truly a marathon and not a sprint so I always try to use the new year as a refresher or second wind to get ready for the second half of the season. Hello everyone the end of the year always signifies the halfway point for me the past few seasons. The season is truly a marathon and not a sprint so I always try to use the new year as a refresher or second wind to get ready for the second half of the season. I have had an unexpected break given that I suffered an injury in practice so I have been unable to practice or play the last 3 games. Even though I have been out I try to take the positive out of this minor setback which has given me time to recover from my injury as well as regain my mental focus. Basketball is as much mental as it is physical and everyone needs a little time away from the game. This time of year is always considered the dog days of the season where everyone is fatigued and games are starting to wear on the body. So a small break comes in handy big time whether is Christmas break or just a few days off from the game. As far as our season in my last post we were preparing for a big game against Hapoel in Israel. We were able to get a huge victory on the road and qualify for top 16 in Eurocup which was a huge team goal. On a side note Israel is one of the most beautiful countries that I have had the pleasure of traveling to and I eventually want to go back someday. I'm excited to finally get back on the court tomorrow being a competitor and loving to play the game of basketball sitting on the side is never fun for me. Injuries are a rare thing for me so when I do actually have to sit out I try to do all I can to get back on the court as quickly as possible. As 2011 comes to an end I'm going into the new year focused and ready for second half of the season I just want to wish everyone a Happy New Year!!!! and stay focused. Not everyone has the ability to play basketball and travel the world so never take it for granted because someday it will all be over.
God Bless, Michael Lee

The good word from M. Lee- Dec.8, 2011 (by Eurobasket Center) What's up everyone I'm back we just finished a two game road trip and getting ready for another one. I have to say playing more than one game a week has it's benefits and setbacks on the one hand it makes time seem like it's flying bye. On the other hand it can get very tiring there is always a game to prepare for with little time to do it. I have to say I like it so far I rather be busy playing games and preparing for teams than waiting every week because I love playing in games [read more] | |
What's up everyone I'm back we just finished a two game road trip and getting ready for another one. I have to say playing more than one game a week has it's benefits and setbacks on the one hand it makes time seem like it's flying bye. On the other hand it can get very tiring there is always a game to prepare for with little time to do it. I have to say I like it so far I rather be busy playing games and preparing for teams than waiting every week because I love playing in games. We started the road trip playing against Kryvbasbasket it was my first time playing there and they made it very tough to get the win there. But we managed to pull it out in the end and put another w in the win column. After a very quick trip home and I mean hours literally we were off to Croatia for a Eurocup game against Cibona.
I have had the opportunity to play a team in Croatia 3 out of my 4 years in europe and Croatia is one of my favorite countries to travel to. I love the food there and it's nice weather year round especially in Zadar or Split. The game was a tough one we really needed to win if we wanted to have a chance to advance to the next round. It was a close call from start to finish Cibona has really good team so I knew we were not going to go in there and get anything easy from them. We were able to build a small lead but they fought back in the final seconds and we managed to win by two thanks to two big free throws from Vule Avdalovic. We are one step closer to advancing which is a huge goal for us. Right now we are gearing up for another two game road trip another game in the Ukrainian league and another Eurocup game in Isreal.
I'm looking forward to the trip to Isreal having heard so many good things about the country I want to see it for myself. The weather is supposedly great and warm since I'm from Florida I can't wait to get in some warm weather again only if it is for a few days. So until next time be easy people.

We are currently tied for second place in the Ukraine league and second in our Eurocup bracket. We suffered our first setback in Eurocup but we were able to get back on the winning side with a win in our national league. We have a tough game coming up in Eurocup against Cibona so stay tuned for results.
