First week in Szolnok, Hungary - Aug 13, 2010

The summer was quite short. It felt like I only been home for a few weeks. But, during that short period of time I did enjoy spending time with my family in Germany. Now its off to Szolnok, Hungary where I will begin my 10'-11' season. I've been here since Monday (August 9th, 2010), and my first impressions of the city is that it seems quite. It reminds me of my old team in Germany, Giessen. Not that it is bad, you have more time to focus on basketball instead of having other distractions. The fans are really passionate about basketball here. I've been told that Hungarians have some of the best fans in Europe. So I did my research and looked them up on youtube, and I have to say I was really impressed. The atmosphere was crazy!!
Preaseaon training have been intense. Most clubs in Europe practice twice a day. Weight lifting in the morning, and basketball in the evening. We have a great physical trainer who gets the best out of you during workouts. He has many combinations of sets that workout your legs, arms, and abs. We work in about four to five stations, moving clock wise after each set, only having a fifteen second break in between. We do that four rounds. It is really tough, but I know that he is preparing us for the season thats ahead.
During basketball practice we havent been doing too much. We still have some guys on the Hungary National Team that have not made it here yet, due to European qualifications, and our second American has not made it. So practice has been mainly running the set plays five on zero, and learning coach defensive schemes for certain situations. One thing that I am not accustomed to is that our coach does not speak English. This is the first time in my career that I have been on such a team. It is not a burden because the players on the team translate through the whole practice. It is a bit weird but I will get used to it. In the city it is a different story because mainly no one speaks English. Funny story the other day. I was in the DM, which is a store where you can buy your shampoo, bodywash, your typical hygienic products. I was at the cash register checking out , and I gave the lady the money. So as I was leaving and I said, 'chow', which means bye, and she replied by saying, 'Hello'. I turned back around waiting for her to say something to me. I asked my teammates about 'Hello' and they told me you can use the word as saying bye as well. It is backwards, but thats how it is in other countries lol!
My apartment is big, and it is nice. I have two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and a balcony. I stay right in the downtown area, so I am walking distance to grocery stores, etc. The gym is also in walking distance which is good, that way I dont have to drive my car all the time. The car that I have been given is a Wolkswagon Golf. It is a small car, nothing fancy, but it is good on gas. That is perfect, because the capital of Hungary (Budapest) is about an hour and twenty minutes away. I will be taking plenty trips there with my family.
Well Eurobasket I have shared with you the first week on my time here in Szolnok. Hopefully this year I can share with you many more stories that would be on some interest to you. Until then God Bless!!

HYVAA JOULUA- Dec.26, 2012  (by Eurobasket Center)

Hello there, it is time for a little break, time to spend time with family and relax, but as a coach time to look back, analyze-learn and starting preparations for the games after the break. Basketball has been is a struggle lately, the results ( three game losing streak!) are one thing, but even more worrying is our health situation [read more]
Its been a long time since..- Oct.23, 2012  (by Eurobasket Center)

No excuses, by bad, mitt fel, mun vika. Have no reason what so ever for this long an absence from this blog. Sorry! Any way, made it with the national team, had some great games (like beating Belgium by 37 and beating Poland at Koszalin) and finished at the top of the group with 6-2 record. So we will be in Slovenia to compete in the Eurobasket 2013 and compete , not participate , is the main word here [read more]
The Next Chapter.- Aug.28, 2012  (by Eurobasket Center)

Its been a very long time since I last posted on this blog. Ive had a battle back and forth to whether Ill even continue playing the great game of basketball as a professional. Getting to this point has been a lifelong dream of mine, one I have pictured over and over since I was a little kid, so to hang up the sneakers now seems surreal. But it appears that I may not have a choice and Ill let what will be, be and know that it will work out. So here is why Ive come to this point [read more]
