In 2008, the International Basketball League created the
USA All-Starsa developmental basketball team whereby ten
collegiate level players who want to play in the IBL, get to
play against IBL teams- in games that count (official games).
The USA All Stars was created to further the league's goals of
developing and assisting players in maximizing their
opportunities in professional level basketball. The team would
serve as a season-long opportunity (the team plays a full
20 game schedule) for players to prove their game against
outstanding IBL competition.

For most players, playing for the USA All Stars is a tryout to
get in while for other players, these games are their chance to
test their skill against top competition so the player knows
whether to continue pursuing basketball or whether they should
start moving on with other things.

In 2008, the USA All Stars teams finished with 1 win and 21
losses but the team put 14 players onto IBL teams. Mark Williams
played a few games with the USA All Stars but went on to play
for the Portland Chinooks amassing terrific numbersand for his
effortshe was named to the 2008 IBL All Star team representing
the USA All Stars. Zach Ramey also stood out with the
2008 USA All Stars team.

In 2009, the USA All Stars teams finished with 4 wins to
16 losses. The four victories included wins against veteran
clubs such as the Kankakee County Soldiers. This improvement
in record for the USA All Stars was due to better talent
wanting to play in the IBL. The fast paced play of the IBL
produces great players who go on to play overseas (or in the
NBA's D-league) after the IBL season expires. In fact, after
the 2007 IBL season, 102 IBL players went on to play overseas
basketballthis 2007 IBL season established the IBL as the
league to play into get or maintain an overseas basketball
job. The IBL season conveniently occurs from mid April through
all of May and June which is after the NBDL season and after
the overseas leagues are done and right before NBA summer leagues
and overseas opportunities come up; the timing of the IBL season
has made the International Basketball League an attractive spot
for players who need to continue their development and/or
maintain their shape and skill. Through the USA All Stars team
in 2009, 25 players made IBL teams. Terrence Hundley and Terry
Jeffries both played 7 games for the USA All Stars and both
Terrence and Terry moved on to IBL clubs where there overall
accomplishments (total number of games, total statistics) were
deemed worthy of IBL 2009 All Star recognition; Jeffries is
considered one of the fastest guards in America and in 22 games
played in the IBL- Jeffries averaged 18.3pts, 4.8 rebounds and
5.2 assists (played with USA All Stars 7 games, the Oregon Wave
3 games and the Central Oregon Hotshots 12 games). Hundley
scored 49 points in his USA All Stars debut versus the Southern
Illinois Truth. Hundley went on to average 29.4 points,
4.0 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game in his 15 games in the IBL
(6 games for the USA All Stars, 3 games for the Grand Rapids
Flight and 6 games for the Central Or' Hotshots).

In 2010, so farthe USA All Stars teams have 2 wins to 12 losses
with 9 remaining games slated for this upcoming weekend in
Portland Oregon (the IBL holds its final try-out involving USA
All Stars teams in Portland on May 1st and 2nd; for information
call Terrance Dickens at 503-805-3311). So far in 2010,
25 players have been given spots on IBL teams from IBL tryouts
featuring the USA All Star teams. Impressive early- is William
Rece Hampton who plays for the Battle Creek Knights and is
averaging 23.7 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists in
8 games played. Not officially impressive yet, but considered a
great prospect based on his collegiate career but more so-
based on his recent tryout weekend in Los Angeles is a newcomer
to minor league basketball- Travis Pinnick. Pinnick is a hard
working, high jumping forward just out of Yale University.
Pinnick, an 11 point and 5 and a half rebound collegiate player-
made the All-Ivy team in 2007/2008 and again in 2008/2009.
Pinnick and the Los Angeles Lightning start their season
in Las Vegas on May 7th and 8th.

The USA All Stars program (team) has been deemed a success for
players but as well- starting in the second year of the program
(2009) the actual games involving the USA All Stars were
competitive (restated- the scores from the 2009 season were
normal- meaning these were good games for the most part).
The USA All Stars team in 2010 even started off 2-0!
